Pastimes

This is an intergenerational oral history project involving Year 7 students from the Lister Community School

interviewing older local residents. It will use photographs, videos, transcripts and a devised piece of drama,

The Aims of this Project are:

1) To bring people of several generations together to conserve, share and pass on memories of the local area and
of traditional children's games from around the world in events for the local community, educational resources for
schools and a travelling exhibition.

2) To train young people to conduct oral history interviews and video them, giving them a knowledge of their local and cultural heritage and developing their communication skills.

3) To enable people of different generations and backgrounds to participate together in arts-based activity and to produce a site-specific (school building of the era) devised drama based on these memories and traditions to reach a wide local audience. The DVD of this production will be a unique and permanent record, showing live versions of children's pastimes of the 1940's and 50's, and interviews with local residents.

The Outcomes of this Project will be:

1) A devised site-specific drama shown to Primary School children in the E13 Learning Community (7 primary schools and one secondary) and the wider community of family and friends.

2) An exhibition shown in Plaistow Library and local community centres.

3) A DVD of the drama and interviews, and an education pack to be distributed to schools in the area.

4) An information pack with DVD to be distributed in local community centres and libraries.

5) Recorded interviews and transcripts to be held in the local Stratford Archive.
